A Note of Interest: The building portrayed in this painting, the one directly behind the caleche is the 'Maison Pierre du Calvet', located at 401-405 Bonsecours Street in Old Montreal. It is a historic 1725 stone dwelling from the French regime, renowned as one of the city's 'oldest 25 private houses, in fact it is the sixth oldest. Known for its thick fieldstone walls and steep roof, it was owned by Montreal merchant Pierre du Calvet, who, in his time, was known to be a historically ardent supporter of the advancing American Revolution. Built in the 18th century, this house is known as one of the most beautiful examples of the urban architecture that developed in 'New France'.
Today this building is known as 'Hotel Pierre du Calvet' and has nine eloquent rooms. The library is comfortably furnished with a sitting area in front of a big fireplace and has old refectory tables that can be used for reading or business meetings... it's an ideal room that can also accommodate small groupings of people. Adjacent to the reception area, there is a small Victorian interior garden located in the heart of the house. It's a relaxing area where one can relax and enjoy a cocktail while conversing with its colourful resident parrots.

Sergei Vorobiev is a Russian-Canadian painter associated with Montreal’s Russian émigré artistic community.
