DALTON, Ernest Alfred AOCA
Ernest was born in Brixton, England in 1887 and immigrated to Canada in 1924 settling in Toronto. He worked mainly in oils and painted farmlands, buildings and landscapes of rural Ontario and was one of the foremost Canadian landscape artists of his day.
His works convey an air of mystery and his forest trees are formidable and seemingly ageless. Dalton captures a mood of solitude and silence with his interpretation of the natural environment and demands respect for the natural order as depicted in his paintings.
Ernest exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy and he was an associate of the Ontario College of Art. His work is highly respected and is in many corporate and private collections across Canada.
He died in 1963.
